The underwater environment is very different from everything we are used to experiencing above water. A multitude of colors, shapes, swimming patterns and behaviors meet us when we dive along a reef. To most people, all the different shapes and colors of coral and fish beg an explanation. Differences in behavior between different fishes, as well as obvious differences in where you find different reef creatures usually also are questions that come to mind. However, without prior knowledge, the diversity and variance in the reef ecosystem are for many people overwhelming and without help, it is difficult to create some structure in this mass of information.
